Learn to Crochet with the Caron Crochet Stitch Along!
March 26, 2019
You guys! Did you get the email from Joann yesterday? This looks like so much fun! Let’s learn to crochet together!
There’s a Mystery to Solve!
By the looks of things, this is a 5-week stitch along. All we know is that the end result will be a spring afghan that measures approx. 45″ x 55″, it’s made of at least one granny square, and that one granny square is made of Caron Yarn’s one pound “Clear Blue Skies” yarn, and there are 66 square in total.
The rest is a mystery that can only be solved when you complete the project. I wonder what it’s going to look like when we’re finished. Dontcha just love a good mystery!
There’s a How-To Video!
You don’t even have to know how to crochet to solve this mystery because there’s a how-to video every week.
I think this is a super idea! We’ll be stitching along with Mikey from The Crochet Crowd and, being the crochet guru that he is, he’s made a video to show how to make this first square. It’s a close-up look at the full step-by-step process for each stitch. You can pause and hit replay as many times as you like until you get that stitch down and you can do it all from the comfort of your own home!
Mikey says we have to make 22 of these squares this week and then join him next week for the next clue and video. Considering he made one square in about 10 minutes, I think that’s doable so yeah… challenge accepted, Mikey. Bring it on!
The Supply List
For this first square we’ll need a size U.S. H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge and one ball of Caron One Pound “Clear Blue Skies” which just happens to be on sale this week for $7.99. Hmmmm…
Here’s a link to the instructions for the first square and a full supply list that shows everything we’ll need for the whole blanket – Spring Stitch Along Supply List.
Are You Up For The Challenge?
I know I’m in, what about you? If you’re like me you’re thinking, “It sounds like a ton o’ fun now but I know me and in about 2 weeks I’ll drop it and move on to something else.” How many times have we all started projects and then left them unfinished when some new shiny project comes along?
But there’s power in numbers, right? If we all do this together we can give each other a little nudge now and then to keep everybody on their toes and moving toward the goal. And if we all stick with it we’ll have a pretty new Spring blanket when we’re done.
I’ll be working behind the cutting counter tonight and tomorrow night, from 5 – closing. Stop by and let me know you’re accepting the challenge, too, and we can share war stories – or horror stories – whichever the case may be. C’mon. You know you want to!

She's since found safer, more creative ways to use her Fiskars and Mod Podge. Next time you're at the store, stop by the cutting counter and have a chat! (Just please don't ask me about lightbulbs!)
